Bury it in the Dirt!

On Sunday at Central Campus we dug into a pretty wild moment in John 12 where Jesus was at peak popularity. In today's world, that’s exactly when you'd cash in, leverage your platform, and ride the hype. But instead of soaking up the spotlight, Jesus started talking about planting seeds.

He reminded us that a seed is perfectly safe if you leave it sitting on a shelf. But it’s also completely useless. To actually grow and produce a harvest, it has to be buried in the dirt. The shell has to break, the core has to be emptied, and the root has to be anchored. It’s this crazy Kingdom principle: to actually gain life, you have to be willing to lose it.

It’s spring, and I am loving all the new blossoms on the trees… but I am reminded that last years leaves had to fall and die so this new life could happen! We love to see that kind of life in our own lives… but we for sure would rather skip the messy part of dying to our own egos and preferences. But Jesus is asking us to step out of the safe little seed packet and actually go "All-In."

Since we are wrapping up the week tomorrow and heading into the weekend, I just wanted to drop those three questions from Sunday back in front of you to consider:

As you navigate a world obsessed with self-preservation and personal glory, may you have the courage to follow Jesus to the cross. May God give you the grace this week to fully surrender your pride, your personal preferences, and your need for control. When the instinct to protect your own image screams at you, may the Holy Spirit remind you that whoever holds tightly to his life will lose it, but whoever gives his life away for the sake of Christ will keep it for eternity. May you willingly lay down your desires for the sake of others. And as you do, may God surprise you with the deep, beautiful joy of His resurrection power working through you
